Great Smoky Mountains Opening May 9, 2020
Great news, Nature Lovers: The Great Smoky Mountains National Park just announced they will begin reopening the Park May 9, 2020.You can probably hear my enthusiasm as I type! Officials announced they will follow guidance from the White House, CDC, local and state public health authorities, while reopening the Park in phases. The Park communicated the the health and safety of their employees, partners, visitors and volunteers were their top priority and everything will be heavily monitored throughout this process. The Park will be implementing new safety procedures to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The first phase of reopening will include many trails and main roads thru the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Did you hear that? We get to go back to our beloved mountains. We get to breathe in that magical air that it seems we only get in the majestic Great Smoky Mountains. The campgrounds, visitor centers and secondary roads will open in later phases, but this is a great start for all of us who are missing our Mountains. This reminds us me of that old saying…“beggars can’t be choosers…”
